Typically, a long-distance move is if you are moving over 400 miles to your new home. Sometimes, this is called a cross-country move or long-haul moving.

A local move is if you are moving less than 50 miles to a new house. This could be moving between cities, from one apartment to a house, etc. Typically, moving companies will charge an hourly rate for a local move.
