Reliant and the Houston Texans: teaming up in the community
Reliant is proud to be the Official Energy Provider of the Houston Texans. Together, the Texans and Reliant are powering gameday and every day around Houston and in communiities throughout Texas.
At the heart of the powerful Texans-Reliant alliance is the Scholarships for Champions initiative. This long-standing educational outreach program annually awards a $10,000 scholarship to six exceptional Houston-area high school seniors.
Student-athlete recipients and their families are surprised during a special event at NRG Stadium where they are honored for their achievements on and off the field. Since 2005, Reliant and the Houston Texans have supported nearly 110 students, surpassing $710,000 in scholarship donations, recognizing students’ commitments to athletics, education and their communities, through their leadership skills, academic excellence and volunteering efforts.
“We are moved by the inspirational stories of each of these student athletes – their resilience, dedication and unwavering commitment on the field, in the classroom and in the community serve as examples to all,” said Leanne Schneider, senior director of community relations at Reliant. “We wish them the best of luck as they embark on this exciting new chapter, and know their strong foundations will carry them on a pathway to success. We’re rooting for each of them!”
Deserving student-athletes are nominated by teachers, mentors and coaches. Visit the Scholarships for Champions submissions page for nomination criteria and more details.
Recent Scholarships for Champions recipients represent the greater Houston area’s Harris, Waller, Fort Bend and Brazoria Counties, and they excel in a variety of sports, including football, track, baseball, diving, cheerleading and volleyball.
NRG Stadium is the place to be on gameday. Along with the action on the gridiron, fans can stop by Section 108, and gear up for a photo opp with Reliant. Outside the stadium at the BULLevard, the Texans faithful can play plinko for prizes, try their luck at the football toss and maybe even meet Hugo, the Reliant mascot.
Fans who need to charge their phones while at any NRG stadium event can stop by one of 12 Reliant Charging Stations located throughout the stadium concourse. These stations make it easy to rent a portable power pack and charge outlet-free, anywhere in the stadium. Rentals are even free on gamedays.
NRG Stadium was the first stadium to have a retractable roof. Its construction was completed in 2002.
