  • Devil’s Sinkhole: If you want to shock and awe your kids, take them to the largest single-chamber cavern in Texas. The park centers around the sinkhole that houses anywhere between 3 to 5 million Mexican free-tailed bats each summer.

  • Palo Duro Canyon: Referred to by locals as the “Grand Canyon of Texas,” Palo Duro Canyon is the second-largest canyon in the state. Whether the family hikes, bikes or climbs, they’re sure to love this natural wonder.

  • Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve: Located in Dripping Springs, this nature preserve was naturally created thousands of years ago when a river collapsed. Bring the kids to swim into the cave and marvel at the limestone cliffs that surround the pool.

The wild west lives on

If you’re looking for a Texas-sized slice of frontier flavor, you’ve come to the right place. From riding horses to school by day to wrangling cattle by night, some of these stereotypes just may be true. The whole family will love these Wild West-type attractions.

  • Rodeos: Spanish missionaries taught their ranch hands horsemanship many generations ago, and this eventually turned into rodeos with the American cowboy. Today, cowboys compete for money, Texas-sized belt buckles, trophies and more all over the great state.

  • Dude ranches: Here in Texas, some cattle ranches are converted into places for tourists to stay. You can take in everything a ranch has to offer – from wildlife to ranch-style food – at many of these peaceful retreats.
