How do I opt in?

Call us at 713-207-7777 or 1-866-222-7100, and provide the call center agent your mobile number. A triggered text message will be sent to your mobile device. Be sure to reply "YES" to 697697 within 2 hours of receiving it to subscribe. The call center agent can also help you select which particular text alerts you want to receive. 

You can also opt-in through your online account. Once logged in, choose "Alerts & notifications" from the dropdown menu, then opt in to receive text notifications. From here you can choose which text alerts you want to receive.


How do I opt out?

There are several ways you can opt out of receiving text messages.

You can stop receiving text messages at any time by going to the “Alerts & notifications” page in your online account and unchecking the text notifications opt-in box, or going to the “Account & service alerts” page in your online account and unchecking the box(es) next to the alert(s) you want to discontinue. Or, you can text STOP to 697697 from your mobile device to be unsubscribed from all Reliant text messages sent to that phone number.

You can also speak with a call center agent at 713-207-7777 or 1-866-222-7100. Tell them you want to opt out of text messages or ask them to remove the cell phone number from your account. Once you have opted out, you will receive a text message from Reliant confirming that you are opted out.

Furthermore, your mobile device will be automatically opted out on the due date of your FINAL invoice. You will receive a text message from Reliant confirming that you are opted out.

Reliant text messages are a convenient way to stay informed about your account, service-related requests, usage, billing, and more. Once you opt in, you’ll automatically receive texts based on the preferences you select in your online account, which you can manage at any time. You can also request updates on demand (as you need them) by texting a keyword to 697697. Please note that the types of texts available are slightly different for customers on prepaid plans.

How many text messages will I receive?

The number and frequency of text messages will vary based on the programs and selections for which you opted in. Some messages may be received on demand by texting keywords to 697697. Others may include the option to be set up to occur periodically.

Do text messages work with international numbers?

Currently, text messages are only available to subscribers with United States phone numbers.

Is there a fee to receive text messages from Reliant?

Reliant does not charge a fee for text messages, but message and data rates may apply. Depending on your text plan, you may be charged by your wireless carrier.

  • BILL — to receive the amount and the due date of your current Reliant bill 
  • ESTBILL — to receive an estimate of your next bill based on your usage so far this billing cycle 
  • COST — to receive the amount of electricity charges you've incurred so far this month 
  • USAGE — to receive your usage in kilowatt-hours so far this month 
  • HELP — for resources to answer questions about your account 
  • STOP — to stop receiving all text messages from Reliant; this will have no other effect on your account
